Hitachi Medical would like to express our deepest sympathies to those affected by the earthquake that occurred in the Tohoku region. Hitachi Medical shall continue to provide full support for the recovery of affected families, towns, and society at large.
On the basis of the corporate philosophy of “contributing to the advance of healthcare and serving the health of people around the world by providing ever-improving medical systems,” Hitachi Medical has offered products that meet the needs of the times by seeking to reduce the burden on the patient and pursuing products that are kind to people by development and introduction of new technologies.
In 2010, the Hitachi Group announced in its mid-term management plan that it would concentrate management resources upon the “Social Innovation Business,” focusing upon and strengthening the Healthcare Business as one of its pillar businesses.
Accordingly, our mid-term management plan released in 2010 calls for the promotion of our medical business as part of the social innovation business. Specifically, we will move forward on the following two axes.
Firstly, we will promote business structure reforms through the development of a new business model. Rather than adopting our old approach of improving hardware, software, and applications in a stand-alone fashion, we will develop a new business model that combines these products with the design, services and medical information systems – which are what the customers see directly.
Secondly, we are promoting a business strategy that responds to the bipolarization of the medical equipment market. In the global medical equipment market, bipolarization is developing between the high-end models with advanced performance and the low-priced popular models. We will implement our business strategy which responds to this bipolarization.
In the future, Hitachi Medical will expand and reinforce the medical equipment business, strengthening the cooperation with the Hitachi Group and seek to offer products that are kind to people all over the world as the core company in the healthcare business of the Hitachi Group.
As of March 3, 2011, Aloka Co., Ltd. became a 100% subsidiary of Hitachi Medical and changed its name to Hitachi Aloka Medical, Ltd. on April 1, 2011. Aloka commercialized medical ultrasound equipment for the first time in the world in 1960 and has promoted the ultrasound business under its highly valued Aloka brand. We will exert synergy effects by leveraging the strengths of the two companies to become leading medical systems manufacturer in the world.
We will also increase our focus on initiatives relating to corporate social responsibility(CSR), including compliance, environmental conservation, and contributions to society, under the corporate activities in accordance with “Basics and Ethics.” Your continued support is deeply appreciated.
